Print shop is a broad term. To different people, in different circumstances, it means different things. I’m always surprised when I tell people I own a print shop, the most common response I get is, “Oh, so you do t-shirts?”
No, I don’t 😄
Therefore, I’m going to break this list of Top 10 Best Local Print Shops in Austin down into the various print shop types and name the best local print shops in Austin that fit each category.
I’m only featuring locally owned print shops in the Austin area. This does not include franchises that might be locally owned.
Screen printers are mostly known for apparel. Things like t-shirts, hoodies, and hats. Some screen printers also do embroidery while others mostly focus on screen printing.
Screen printing is a method where ink is pushed through a stencil onto fabric, paper, or other surfaces, ideal for vibrant, durable designs on apparel, posters, and promotional items.
Industry Print Shop is a local, artist lead screen printing shop that has a large focus on the music industry. Hence the name.
They are unique in they not only screen print on apparel, but also paper or “flat stock” as they call it.. This is a lost art and the results are very impressive.
Screen printing uses opaque inks and spot colors that can be layered onto a sheet. This allows you to print on colored substrates and produce colors that other printing methods have a hard time replicating.
Industry Print Shop also offers “Live Screen Printing” where they will bring their mobile screen printing operation on-site and produce products live at your event. Who has ever heard of that?
Commercial printing companies cater to larger organizations and brands. This means larger projects that are more complicated, custom in nature, and at a large scale.
Commercial printing encompasses a whole host of print but traditionally, their specialty is on things like booklets, catalogs, envelopes, mail, print marketing campaigns, menus, packaging, and others for brands and organizations.
Their customers are organizations, usually of a larger scale, and their expertise is being able to coordinate and handle the requirements that they need.
You’re not going to walk into a commercial printing company and ask for some copies…

Copy shops used to be synonymous with Kinko’s. Their forte is creating quick copies or reproductions of documents.
Copy shops often exist in downtown districts and universities so that businesses, lawyers, professors, and students can get what they need quickly.
Located on the University of Texas at Austin campus, Jenn’s Copy & Binding is a great resource for copies and document reproductions.
If you need copies, go local instead and enjoy a level of expertise and service that you won’t get with the national chains.
Direct mail advertising, also referred to as bulk mail, marketing mail, or direct response, is a world all unto it’s own.
It’s a wonderful world where you can magically reach everyone in a neighborhood or across the nation, if you know what you’re doing.
In order to do direct mail well, you need to know how to manage and acquire mailing lists, variable data merging and addressing, and how to navigate the postal system to come up with the best strategy that gets results.
Direct mail is our specialty and we’re really good at it. Whether you’re trying to develop a newsletter to your current customers or market to a fresh new audience, we can help you from beginning to end.
We are Certified Direct Mail Experts by the USPS and know all the ins and outs of postal programs and strategies that most other service providers have never heard of.

Embroidery is seen everywhere. Most often, embroidery is done on hats, shirts, and other textiles. While embroidery isn’t strictly speaking “print”, it does fall under the graphics industry.

If you want custom embroidery for shirts, hats, or anything else, Austin Embroidery Co. is your best bet. https://austinembroideryco.com/
Embroidery is a complicated art. Austin Embroidery Co. can help you design it, digitize it (the process of translating a design into stitching), and embroider the pieces.
Letterpress is a traditional and elegant printing method that is highly sought after these days. It uses metal or polymer plates mounted on a press that literally presses the image into the paper.
Its tactile and dimensional effects cannot be replicated fully with modern printing press techniques. Letterpressing, embossing, debossing are timeless classics and perfect for high end stationery and invitations.
If you’re wanting the ancient art of letterpress, Inviting Letterpress Boutique is Austin’s premier letterpress printing shop.
Run by Ashley, Inviting Letterpress Boutique specializes in invitation, cards, and stationery for special occasions and gifts. They also offer digital printing but the focus is the same: high end invitations and stationery.
Letterpress can take time and does cost more, but there are so few people who do it anymore.
A mailing service specializes in printing and mailing communications through the mail. This can be advertising but it also includes things like invoices, statements, notices, explanation of benefits and others.
This type of mail is often referred to as transactional mail. Different from direct mail or marketing mail.
While it may still be promotional in nature, transactional mail fills a business communication and compliance need first and foremost.
Being able to mail these sorts of things at scale requires the help of a mail service provider who knows their way around postal regulations and can help develop and deliver these often private and time-sensitive mailpieces in an efficient and secure manner.
The healthcare, finance, insurance, government, and other industries rely on mail service providers to send their mail, on time, in budget, and in a secure manner.
This is where we shine again. Print Shoppe is a premiere mail service provider delivers mail communications for our client in a way that other print shops just can’t.
Our ability to take your business needs for mailing and printing services is a specialty that we take the most pride in.
Whether you’re a finance or insurance organization needing to outsource your invoicing and notifications, a healthcare provider needing to send mail that complies with HIPAA privacy policies, or a utilities company needing to send statements to your district, we are your best resource. We just happen to be local.
Promotional products, often referred to as swag, include things like branded sunglasses, pens, keychains, drinkware, and even candy. They are great giveaways for tradeshows and events.
Many promotional product companies don’t manufacture the products themselves. They are simply distributors and source the products from manufacturers around the world.
This makes sense, of course, because no one company could possibly manufacture every promotional product under the sun. That would be insane.
The best ones do make promotional products, even if it’s just a limited selection.
Austin Print Co. focuses on promotional products and has some unique in-house capabilities such as laser engraving and specialized UV printing machines to print on drinkware, metal, and plastic materials.
Like most promotional products companies, they also branded apparel as well and have embroidery and DTF (Direct-to-Film) capabilities.
This allows them to do high quality, short turnaround promotional products and apparel for those instances where time is a factor and when customization is required. They can also help you source promotional products from other suppliers and are a really great resource.
Sign shops specialize in… well… signs. It’s also called large format printing. Things like yard signs, construction site signs, and banners.
Real sign shops also do architectural signage like channel letters, menu boards, monuments, building signs, directional signs, directory signs, window graphics.
Many of them also do vehicle graphics as well.
Stokes Sign Company, or simply “Stokes”, is the best sign shop in Austin, TX. They do it all and they are locally owned and operated since 1994. We’ve partnered with them for years and their team is friendly and extremely skilled in this niche of printing.
Many sign shops will do printed banners, corrugated signs, and vehicle graphics. Stokes will do all that and more including handcrafted and hand painted signs and even the really large signs you see on the side of the highway requiring bucket trucks to install.
If you need signage, Stokes is your best resource. They just happen to be local.
Stickers are their own niche. Small, large, glossy, silky. Circles, rectangles, and custom shapes. They come in a ton of different flavors and are really fun.
Stickers are great for advertising around town and are a great way to get your brand and message out there. You’ll see them in your local drive thru’s, utility poles, and peoples car bumpers. Often all at the same time (like me the other day at Dan’s Hamburgers).
If you’re looking for your own flavor of sticker, Bumperactive is your best local resource.
They specialize in the sticker niche and can help with any sticker you want. Small quantities, large runs, it doesn’t matter.
If you’re going to be stickering up the local community, you should at least be doing it with a local sticker shop, right?
That’s it. Our “Top 10 Local Print Shops” in Austin, TX. If you have any others you think we should mention or a category of print shop that we forgot, shoot us an email at [email protected].
I hope this is helpful and happy printing.
