That’s a 38% savings over commercial postage rates for EDDM’s.

The range in rates for EDDM postage for nonprofits is because of the “entry discount”. An entry discount is a discount you receive for entering you mail into the mailstream more closely to the mail's final destination.

There are three entry discounts you can receive for EDDM’s:

  • None - this applies when you do not enter your mail close to it’s destination i.e. you enter your mail in Houston that is destined for Dallas.
  • DSCF - You receive this discount when you enter your mail to the Destination Section Center Facility (a type of regional USPS mail sorting facility) that directly services the mail routes your mail is addressed to i.e. you enter mail at the DSCF in Austin, TX that’s destined for mailboxes in Austin, TX.
  • DDU - This is the USPS official name for a local post office. If you enter your mail that is destined for mail routes covered by a DDU, you would receive the lowest postage rate.

There are even other discounts such as the “Delivery Sort Container Discount” that can decrease the postage rate an additional $0.021 per piece bringing it down as low as  $0.111

If you are a qualifying nonprofit, you can apply for and receive your nonprofit status with the USPS by filing PS Form 3624

Once you’ve received your authorization letter from the USPS, you can provide it to any reputable mail service provider and they will be able to achieve nonprofit postage rates on your behalf.

Not all mail service providers are able to do this but we at Print Shoppe certainly are.
